FrOSCon 20

·306 words·2 mins

This weekend I attended FrOSCon, an open source event in St. Augustin / Bonn, Germany. On Saturday around lunch time there was a new visitor record of 1200. I don’t know how many more came in the afternoon and on Sunday.

It was the 20th iteration of this event and the organizers have unveiled this work of art.

It was wonderful to meet up with both old and new friends throughout the weekend - Christian, Dirk, Florian, Gerald, Joerg, Jens, Martin, and Sujeevan. A real highlight was Daniel Stenberg’s talk AI slop attacks on the curl project about the curl bug bounty programm and submissions made with the help of LLMs.

I got a lot of ideas for future talks from the session Es Es Ka Em: Warum gute Leute nicht bei euch arbeiten wollen given by Florian Haas. For example, he provided a QR code pointing to the session slides with speaker notes, so everybody can follow more easily. He explains his process in the blog post No, you won’t get a PowerPoint from me!

Dirk explained his recent career changes when he moved from a techie to a team manager and offered some useful tips and food for thought on what to consider when doing so.

I also enjoyed giving the talk Schatz wir müssen reden with Martin Leyrer.

A big thank you to all the organizers and helpers who made this 20th FrOSCon possible. The event was well-organized and it was great to be part of this milestone year for the conference.

You can watch nearly all talks at media.ccc.de. The C3Voc did a great job too and sessions were live-streamed and replays were available within minutes after the calls.

As a souvenir, I kept one of the deposit tokens (frog), just like last year. So both are watching me during work now.
